Senior Research Support Associate, Biology of Ocean Microbes

Job Description

SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE (BIOLOGY OF OCEAN MICROBES), Civil and Environmental Engineering-Chisholm Lab, to join a multidisciplinary group studying the ecology of the marine microorganism Prochlorococcus, the most abundant photosynthetic cell on the planet.  The research team specializes in studying this microbe from the genome level to whole ocean scale using integrative systems biology approaches.  Responsibilities will include maintaining bacterial cultures and lab equipment; ordering lab consumables; carrying out culturing experiments, working with various experimental techniques such as flow cytometry, cloning, and nucleic acid extractions; and performing general upkeep and organization of the lab. There will be opportunities to work on multiple projects and subjects and to co-author research papers.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; exposure to a research lab; demonstrated ability to independently multitask and execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experiments; excellent organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills; self-motivation; and work with others. PREFERRED:  B.S./B.A. in biology or related science field, one year of bench research experience, and experience with microbial culturing and molecular biological techniques. Job #23715-4

This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension.
