Primary Purpose:

The Domain Architect - Cloud ideal candidate should possess expertise in tools rationalization/consolidation, cloud migration, and a comprehensive understanding of observability strategy. As a Monitoring Cloud Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing robust monitoring solutions for both the on-premises and the cloud environment, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.

The Domain Architect - Cloud translates requirements into blueprints for business process, data, infrastructure, applications, or platforms to be configured or created in the Cloud. Drives development and implementation of company's cloud strategies and contributes to cloud roadmap and delivery strategy. Responsible for ensuring onboarding of Cloud Services, designing and implementing Cloud-based strategies to automate repeatable tasks, decrease risks, and speed deployment.


As a specialist in Cloud technologies and the company journey to the Cloud, facilitates definition of IT architecture for Cloud-based systems, applications, and/or infrastructure, owning and maintaining standards, technical architecture patterns, and reference architectures. Provides guidance and leadership to cross-functional teams to drive the adoption of modern software engineering practices enabled by Cloud technology, including Site Reliability Engineering, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Works with Contractors through Contract Manager directly or their back office support for any assigned work, to lead status meetings with contract manager to review progress and quality of assigned work. Assists as needed with providing company protocols, scope of work, and contract adjustments where valid and approved by company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides hands-on architecture for vision, design, implementations, and operational oversight of large-scared Enterprise observability platforms.
  • Architect monitoring solutions that align with industry best practices and organizational goals.
  • Ensures seamless transition of monitoring systems to cloud platforms, optimizing for scalability and performance.
  • Addresses challenges and risks associated with migrating monitoring tools to the cloud.
  • Formulates and implements an overarching observability strategy to enhance system visibility and performance monitoring.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of an architecture that optimizes for flexibility, re-use, scalability, performance and availability within Cloud environment. Drives selection and adoption of necessary technology tools to enable Cloud-based workflows, driving automation and building pipelines for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) of code. Drives adoption of DevSecOps methodologies, informing selection and implementation of technology tools, implementing security automation as code, and ensuring use of test automation strategies. Coordinates and prioritizes resolution of all escalated activities, including testing, project management, and implementation of system upgrades, enhancements, and bug fixes within domain.
  • Collaborates with engineers, business stakeholders, and IT leadership to provide input to roadmap, lifecycle management, and strategy of products and capabilities relevant to domain. Provides technical input into technology fit, risk management, and trade-offs with respect to business value and constraints pertaining to domain. Frequently interacts with the business to integrate the knowledge of the business and functional priorities into Cloud architecture and designs. Works side by side with developers on new technical architecture patterns ensuring alignment. Consults with agile teams to address design decisions. Coordinates with contractors to enable their day-to-day activities, participating in status meetings, providing company protocols, scope of work, and contract adjustments where valid and approved by the company.
  • Understands group strategy and goals. Ensures that patterns and standards developed are consistent with the vision and roadmap of the product group. Facilitates implementation of Cloud architecture standards and patterns by product teams, emphasizing DevSecOps practices and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). Participates in discovery and visioning phase to create a high-level design approach for new applications, services or infrastructure in the Cloud.
  • Assesses critical path and assists in implementation of projects required by the business. Participates in quarterly planning. Assists with development of epics and features (i.e., units and groupings of work defined in an agile way) related to one architecture domain. Collaborates with Product Owners and Group Product Managers to identify and define business value.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Hybrid Schedule:

  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 10 years - progressive experience in software engineering, IT infrastructure engineering, and/or technology architecture across multiple products, systems and/or platforms. Must include 5 years of experience with systems orchestration and automation, and extensive experience working with Cloud technologies and infrastructure.
  • Communication for Technical Leadership - Ability to communicate technical ideas and strategies effectively to non-technical audiences, including executive leadership, via multiple mediums (e.g., written communications, verbal communications, presentations, etc.).
  • Architecture Strategy - Knowledge of the fundamentals of architecture strategy, with a strong ability to create an enterprise architecture (application, data, and technical) that is aligned to business and IT imperatives.
  • Information Security - Strong understanding of the fundamentals of information security, digital privacy measures, and cybersecurity practices, and the ability to incorporate strong security practices into technology systems and applications.
  • Cloud Delivery - Familiarity with different Cloud computing delivery models, knowledge of Cloud-based solutions for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), and ability to deliver Cloud-based technologies and systems.
  • Cloud Engineering - Ability to deliver highly scalable software in the Cloud, design for resiliency and redundancy, and leverage expertise in relevant design, processes and techniques to develop and plan server architecture for Cloud infrastructure including components such as Cloud management, consumer resources, elasticity, metering, hybrid capabilities, and disaster recovery.
  • Cloud Architecture - A strong understanding of the components of cloud architecture, including front end platforms, back end platforms, cloud delivery, and network, and the ability to understand the interactions between those components and subcomponents to design applications, systems, and infrastructure in the cloud environment.
  • Development Languages - Knowledge and understanding of multiple IT programming languages and ability to write code and develop applications using those languages.
  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery - Knowledge of concepts related to Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery of code, DevSecOps, and automation, and ability to use relevant tools to drive the creation of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines.
  • May require work outside of normal business hours and/or 24/7 response availability for system and application maintenance, enhancements, production releases and/or operational emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years - hands-on experience working with DevSecOps practices, including Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • 5 years working in solutions design and IT architecture, including experience with design patterns and providing end-to-end management of critical Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) pipelines and flows.
  • Certification from any of the three major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) in Cloud Architecture / Engineering / DevOps.
  • gile Methodologies - Knowledge of concepts, including Agile Scrum and/or Kanban, and application of Agile methodology (e.g., Lean, SAFe, LeSS) for project management to be able to design, implement and manage projects.
  • DevSecOps Practices - Strong understanding of processes and concepts to drive the integration of development, operations, and security into enterprise software development to produce better outcomes.
  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery Tools - Knowledge of platforms and applications designed to assist or enable continuous configuration automation, e.g., Ansible, Terraform and others.
