Job Description
The Student Engagement Specialist oversees Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), develop and provide training for new and returning RSOs, oversee budgets for all RSOs, coordinate risk management paperwork for events and travel, manage programming and logistical aspects of signature events like OwlFest, Springapalooza, and Grad Gala, promote events through engagement platforms, and serve as lead for Presence student engagement software. This is accomplished by assisting students and advisors with establishment of new RSOs and by developing and implementing strategies to reach students on a variety of engagement platforms. Other duties include working with HCC Departments to promote OSL and RSO events; assist with student programming efforts, both on- and off-site; and advising student groups.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in student life, engagement, and/or activities, including experience working with student organizations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: student engagement, student clubs, event planning, marketing, and/or student organization leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply student engagement theories, models, frameworks, and best-practices, when engaging in student involvement, leadership, student training, student retention, and other educational efforts.
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively.

 


Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with registered student clubs.

Hours per Week
40 - 100%

General Weekly Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours. Overnight travel may be required.
