DESCRIPTION

Responsible for speech therapy patient service delivery including evaluation and treatment of routine and complex patients. Responsibilities include evaluating inpatients and outpatients with speech, language/cognitive, swallowing or voice disorders, completing appropriate documentation/reports and developing and implementing appropriate treatment goals. Performs services that may include modified barium swallow studies.

Performs other related duties. Completes required documentation and communicates patient information across the continuum of care. Participates in training and program development and represents the department to the medical and general community. Demonstrates competence in the UCSD Health System core values. Responsible for education of departmental staff in areas of advanced clinical care and customer service.

This position is for an acute care Speech Pathologist - Provides speech therapy services to patients in the acute care setting.

Some of the duties include: Evaluate patients, design treatment plans appropriate to patient deficits. Select appropriate interventions. Assess treatment results and modify treatment as indicated per patient performance with treatment plan. Involve patient and family during intervention to include patient feedback, participation and education.

Demonstrate ability to establish treatment priorities and deal with the most important areas first. Complete all interdisciplinary documentation and communicate with physicians and care team regarding patient progress. Ensure documentation reflects actual patient performance, progression or regression and are documented within established time frames using specific and accurate terminology to support financial reimbursement.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Speech Pathologist or a Sr. Speech Pathologist level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an educational institution approved by the Board of Speech-Language Pathology, passage of a Board-approved examination.

  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Certificate of clinical competence in speech pathology awarded by the American Speech and Hearing Association.

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a licensed speech pathologist to be considered as a Sr. Speech-Language Pathologist

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Outpatient Experience
  • Four or (4+) more years experience as a licensed speech pathologist in a large healthcare environment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $103,774 - $136,952 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $49.70 - $65.59

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
