This position may work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Greenwich Drive (University City area of San Diego) and remotely.

DESCRIPTION

Population Health Services Organization has a Complex Case Management and UCSD at Home team. We provide RN Case Managers, Social Workers, Care Navigators and providers to high-risk home-confined patients throughout San Diego County. The Medical Assistant will help support our team of NPs, MDs, RNs, and Social Workers in scheduling, escalating issues, care coordination and community resources. This position requires exceptional telephonic skills, including high volume of telephonic outreach to engage patients into Population Health programs. The Medical Assistant will work within UCSD's Home Program and support our Emergency Department to Home Program with scheduling and help providers with orders and communication. This position will be a hybrid of remote and in-office work.

This Medical Assistant will need to possess a strong background in having worked in a clinic, hospital, or nursing home setting, helping providers with orders and referrals and be able to gather an intake and have a sense of when to escalate any issues to an RN that may arise during the day. The Medical Assistant performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: scheduling of patient appointments and associated patient system screens; accurate billing; environmental care functions; equipment/supply management; and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Requires knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.

This position will support multiple providers per day and work with 20+ different providers per month. Additional coordination is needed to ensure patients have their follow up appointments scheduled in a timely manner. The position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. Previous experience with lab work, vital signs, medical terminology, medical record documentation, and patient interaction are critical to this role. Most of this work is telephonic but may involve home visits as needed. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and willingness to do in-home blood draws.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant. Recent MA experience in Family, Internal, or Specialty Medicine is highly preferred.

  • Minimum one (1) year of referral coordination experience.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Epic.

  • Experience with Careport/Allscripts.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including proficiency in Excel.

  • UCSD clinic scheduling experience.

  • Lean Six Sigma yellow belt.

  • Two (2+) or more years of internal medicine or multispecialty care experience.

  • Prior hospital experience.

  • Prior EMT experience.

  • Bilingual: Spanish/English.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Weekends and holidays may be required.
  • Position may require patient home visits.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Work hours are variable, with some weekends and holidays required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,708 - $69,342 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.68 - $33.21

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
