Sales Executive - Core, Principal - San Diego

Your Role
The Southern California Core Account Sales team is primarily responsible for working with brokers and consultants operating within the region to grow Medical and Specialty membership for Blue Shield of California within the Core Accounts segment. The Sales Executive will report to the Local Director of Sales. In this role you will be interacting directly with local brokerages and consulting firms with the goal of attracting new customers to place Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance program with Blue Shield of California. The role also requires interaction and coordination with various internal Blue Shield departments, including but not limited to Underwriting, Implementation, Account Management, Compliance, Event Planning, and the Sales Management Team. The successful applicant will need to be able to communicate the Blue Shield of California strategy and vision to the local marketplace and successfully position Blue Shield products in a way to gain the support of local brokers and consultants.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Be responsible for identification, development, and sale of new employer groups with 101-2,999 eligible employees and managing both an assigned book of business for medical and specialty products (dental, vision, life) and the relationship with producers/consultants
- Work to cultivate and maintain deep relationships with targeted producers to ensure Blue Shield is considered a "must bid" on all new business RFP's for medical, dental, vision and life products and to close sales
- Ascertain needs of producers and employers; assist with presentations at point of sale, educate on product portfolios, capabilities, and health care solutions, facilitate delivery of proposals to brokers, and obtain competitive information
- Develop, execute, and maintain strategic business plans to achieve goals
- Conduct finalist presentations and collaborate with all members of the sales team, including sharing information within the team, providing market insight or feedback as appropriate and supporting the team in achieving new sales
- Document opportunities, quote activity and new sales within the proprietary Blue Shield enterprise management system (Shield Link)
- Participate, plan, and help organize events designed to enhance the relationship between Blue Shield of California and local brokers, consultants, and employers
- Manage and create productive internal relationships with other internal Blue Shield business units such as Premier Accounts and Small Business
- Create positive internal working relationships with the Sales Analyst Team, Underwriting, Implementation, and the Account Management teams; and effectively coordinate both the sales process as well as the transition to Account Management through the implementation process
- Strive to learn new products, acquire new skills, and generally approach the health insurance business with a commitment to curiosity and continuous professional and personal growth
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Requires at least 10 years of prior relevant experience
- Requires an active Health and Life license with the California Department of Insurance
- Requires familiarity with Fully Insured and Self-Funded employee benefit plans
- Requires the ability to listen to both internal and external market participants to ascertain the needs of the buyer and to develop an effective sales strategy that would enable Blue Shield of California to gain the support of both the broker/consultant and ultimately of the employer
- Requires working with an internal underwriting team as well as financially oriented professionals employed by local brokers and consultants
- The successful candidate will ideally have a pre-existing relationship, and be familiar with, the most prominent brokerage and consulting firms in San Diego County
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $ 118461.20 to $ 189538.80 for California.

Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
