*Job Summary*
The Quality Control Lab Technician will perform quality control testing and reporting duties in the concrete and concrete aggregates testing laboratory.

*Compensation*
$25 - $28/ hr


*Responsibilities*

* Perform all aspects of stripping, curing, capping, and compression testing in the concrete and concrete aggregates testing lab
* Report concrete cylinder strength test results according to ACI standards
* In-process aggregate test samples and split to smaller test size according to schedule
* Testing to include moisture content, slump, density, air content, cylinders, etc.
* Perform gradations tests on rock and sand samples along with additional tests such as cleanliness value, #200 wash, sand equivalency, specific gravities, and absorptions
* Enter test results into a computer database and distribute reports to appropriate individuals
* Gather cement, fly ash, and aggregate materials at production plants in preparation for concrete trial batch tests
* Accurately weigh up each material as listed in the trial batch sheets and set up equipment for trial testing
* Conduct scheduled calibrations on test equipment per calibration schedule
* Always maintain work area and office equipment in a safe and clean condition
* Conduct production concrete testing with varying start times as needed
* Troubleshoot job problems and handle job complaints (out-of-spec aggregates, low breaks, Schmidt hammer, cracking, coring)
* Coordinate work with other regional management personnel, i.e. sales, operations, customer service, and dispatch.
* Prepare job incident reports
* Analyze aggregate and strength reports and identify trends
* Work directly with customers
* Attend pre-job meetings


*Education*

* High school diploma/GED
* Related field experience or minimum of 3 years experience
* ATTI and ACI Certified


*Requirements/Qualifications*

* Related field experience or a minimum of 3 years experience
* ATTI and ACI Certified
* Job requires the following motions: climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting up to 75 pounds, occasional lifting of 100 pounds, stretching, sitting, walking on uneven ground and stairs
* May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather and be able to work in wet environments
* Must be able to work flexible hours with varying start and stop times
* Overtime work will be required as needed by the company
* Must meet OSHA 10 guidelines and be able to follow all CalPortland Safety Policies
* ANSI approved PPE will be provided and must be used when required
* Must be able to speak, read and write in English
* Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable
* Certifications in ACI Field Grade I, ACI Lab I & II, ACI Strength Testing, and ACI Aggregates Testing preferred; if no current certifications, you will be required to obtain ACI Aggregate and ACI Strength technician within 6 months of hire date and ACI Field Grade within 12 months of hire date
* Lab Technician will be subject to random drug and alcohol screens as required by company
*Preferred:*
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP software


*Conditions of Employment*
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
