Advanced Drivetrain Technician

This level is intended to perform as an assistant to a Drivetrain Specialist. The Drivetrain Advanced Technician, under specific direction from the Drivetrain Specialist, providing MCR services at renewable energy projects, including but not limited to inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs, as needed. This Drivetrain Technician will be expected to travel for extended periods of time working on EDF Renewables projects as needed. When the Drivetrain Technician is not traveling, he/she will be based at his/her assigned home site and will be directed by the Site Supervisor for that site. While traveling on behalf of EDF Renewables, you are expected to represent our organization and our core values at all times.
- Training of Drivetrain Specialists with projects requiring special skills, including but not limited to, R&R of major components, In-situ repair of major components and development of tooling and fixtures to perform large correctives repairs
- Develop, write, and train work procedures and control instructions for heavy lift operations with the assistance of PDS Technical writer.
- Provide expert technical support for maintenance staff working on wind turbine MCR
- Travel to sites to support AO and Drivetrain team as needed.
Process Standardization & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate CBM data for proactive repairs and failures in the field, providing repair recommendations and coordinating corrective measures in the field with the MCR planner
- Evaluate major components failures and trends, working with PRE and the AO team to develop proactive solutions
- Working with MCR planner to evaluate and vetting of MCR service providers
- Assist PRE with forensic engineering on failed gearboxes and or gearbox components and the re-design efforts for new improved gearbox designs
- Provide high quality workmanship with the goal of increasing safety, performance, and efficiency

Supervison of others -
(Include # of direct reports and consultants for which you have authority. Do not include # of indirect reports supervised by other EDF Supervisors or Managers)
- Typically requires Drivetrain specialist qualifications and a minimum of three years of technical experience in the renewable energy industry, qualified crane caller preferred Experience working with current renewable energy technologies
Education/Experience -
High school or equivalent: five-years related experience or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successfully complete applicable safety and technical training program for advanced wind technician.\
- Able to demonstrate some basic computer knowledge
- Able to follow both verbal and written instructions
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities -
Requires knowledge of:
- Ability to comply with EDF Renewable's Safety & Quality policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Good oral and written communication skills, including basic functional knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read & comprehend schematic drawings.
- Ability to work at heights, including climbing up and descending towers of various heights.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with and provide hands-on training to other technicians.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including cold, rain, wind, etc.
- Mechanical, electrical, and controls aptitude as expressed by prior performance of some of the responsibilities described above.
- Able to provide proof of a current driver's license and clean driving record, to operate company vehicles (field trucks) both on site as well as on public roads and highways.
Physical Requirements -
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is required to stand, walk and use his/her hands.
- The position will require travel, so the employee in this position must be able to successfully accommodate air and ground travel.
Working Conditions -
- 50% of the time is in the field with the other
- 50% doing scheduled training, paperwork, and meetings.
- An undefined amount of the field work will be performed at EDF contracted locations which will require travel.
- This position must be capable of working independently but is generally working with others.
They are provided a company vehicle for official company use only (service truck), during their assigned shift in which they carry the required tools to perform repairs and/or maintenance. This position may work in extreme weather conditions.
Fiscal Responsibilities -
The employee must work within the budget constraints as authorized by the Executive Team; while successfully following all policies and procedures related to employees' fiscal responsibilities in doing the day-to-day job.
Pay Range: $23.72 - $39.53 Hourly
