Senior Operations and Engineering Consultant

Brown and Caldwell

Job Description

Description

Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Sr. Operations and Engineering Consultant to join our growing SoCal consulting team. The right person for this position will leverage their hands-on experience operating a water or wastewater plant, performing start-up and commissioning activities, writing O&M documents, use of online systems, and developing, implementing, or enhancing maintenance programs. This role will also support our local water and wastewater planning and design teams to develop solutions to meet our client's challenging needs. This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative team environment where personal contributions and teamwork are valued.

Detailed Description:

The ideal candidate for this position will have worked in a dual consulting role to support our SoCal O&M consulting and water/wastewater consulting teams.

As part of the O&M consulting team, the candidate will serve as a certified treatment operator performing day-to-day operations and maintenance activities or an equivalent process engineering role. Experience in developing, implementing, and enhancing a maintenance program is core to success in this position. Although this position is primarily technical in nature, the candidate must also possess appropriate communication skills to facilitate client workshops, mediate differences of opinion, and participate effectively in business development meetings. The ability to provide start-up and commissioning guidance to clients and BC team members are also desired as this is critical to the successful completion of our projects.

The Sr. Operations Consultant is focused on startup, commissioning, and post-commissioning services that we provide and includes, field testing observation and documentation, providing on-station operations assistance to plant operators, preparing and assisting with the training of operators, writing standard operating procedures, writing operations and maintenance manuals, evaluating data, and assisting with process and testing troubleshooting. Attendance at recurring meetings is required, as assigned, to support extended commissioning projects. The role may also assist with operations optimization work, as assigned to develop online tools.

This position requires the candidate to travel locally within SoCal. It also requires the candidate to have the physical ability to access water and wastewater plants, collection systems, pump stations, and on rare occasions confined space locations. Although you will be part of a team, the candidate will work on most projects with no other consulting O&M staff present and therefore requires the candidate to have a lot of self-confidence, work independently, and be comfortable using the technology required to work remotely.

As part of the water/wastewater consulting team, the candidate will lead tasks and direct groups of process mechanical designers. Our ideal candidate will have some experience in design coordination of multidiscipline models and be excited about the prospect of learning to develop plans and sections to communicate engineering design. Project work includes the development of P&IDs, equipment layout, design of process piping and utility systems, development of contract drawings, field investigations, and support during construction.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science required; Master's preferred
  • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of operations and maintenance experience and/or equivalent treatment process experience that includes developing O&M, SOP, and other such writing experience
  • Current Wastewater or Water Treatment Operator License a plus
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline team environment
  • A confident technical writer and demonstrated experience such as O&M manuals, SOPs, etc.
  • Confident use of Word, and Excel in day-to-day work, with SharePoint experience a plus.
  • Public speaking and training experience, work, conference, or another format.
  • Experience in planning and scheduling and knowledge of scheduling software
  • Wide breadth of liquid and solids treatment process experience
