THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Submarine Operations Analyst to support the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) in San Diego, CA. The analyst will provide support developing naval exercise objectives, performing acoustic modeling, planning and observing exercises, collecting data for anti-submarine warfare, and post-exercise reconstruction and analysis, and communicate exercise results orally and in written formats to support products for representatives of naval commands, engineering labs, and program offices.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Design test and data collection plans for exercises.
  • Act as lead observer aboard exercise units to coordinates observation and data collection efforts to support exercise reconstruction.
  • Develop exercise messages.
  • Reconstruct exercise events.
  • Analyze exercise results in accordance with the Analysis Plan.
  • Author analytical reports such as Reconstruction and Analysis, Cross or Focused Study, and Annual Reports.

Location: Fully onsite at SMWDC in San Diego, CA.

Target Pay Range: $100K - $104K /year

Travel: As much as 25 to 50% travel is anticipated.

Typical Physical Activity: Desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Training/instructor work in a classroom environment. May involve: hearing or talking.

Existing Secret Security Clearance Required: This position requires an existing DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must already possess an active full or interim Secret security clearance and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
    • Associate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of U.S. Navy experience related to submarine operations and warfare tasks. Experience should include:
    • Planning exercise activities including submarines.
    • Modeling acoustic environments.
    • Developing movement plans and maneuver schemes.
    • Drafting test and data collection plans.
    • Navy ship data collection, mission data extraction, and post mission analysis.
  • Knowledge of analytic tools for acoustic predictions.
  • Ability to develop technical documents in support of exercise planning, execution, reconstruction, and analysis.
  • Experience with drafting messages in standard Navy message format.
  • Experience with PCIMAT, EIPB, and NCOM.
  • Knowledge of AXP-1, MXP-1, OPORD 2000, and Fleet and ASW OPORDS.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
