Job Description

The Senior Energy Engineer will work directly with the technical support team to research, analyze and develop energy efficiency measures and tools to be incorporated into energy efficiency and decarbonization programs for new construction markets. The ideal candidate is a mechanical or electrical engineer with professional interest and experience in building energy efficiency. Candidate is looking for a fast-paced collaborative environment and has proven expertise in identification and development of energy conservation measures, analysis of building energy systems for efficiency, energy modeling, energy codes and standards for commercial buildings. The candidate must have a deep knowledge of buildings and their mechanical, electrical and other support systems. Additionally, the candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and the ability to communicate via email, virtual meetings, and in person. They should have experience working as a mentor and effectively coordinating with colleagues, third-party team members, and clients. Communication and persuasive skills are essential.


Desired Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in any of the following: Engineering and Energy Analysis; MEP design; commissioning, retro-commissioning, construction management, project management, or similar analysis of different type of buildings.
  • Experience with hourly energy simulation tools to predict building energy use such as DOE-2, EnergyPlus or IESVE
  • Knowledge of California Title 24 building energy efficiency standards, especially requirements covering commercial buildings and multifamily buildings greater than three stories
  • A thorough understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems, including advanced controls and monitoring systems.
  • General understanding of all the building HVAC, lighting, plumbing and other energy using systems.
  • Experience on design and construction projects for energy efficiency projects.
  • Ability to perform detailed energy savings calculations and spreadsheet analysis.
  • Ability to create spreadsheet tools to estimate project costs and savings.
  • Self-starting nature with the ability to see tasks through to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and deliverables.
  • Provide quality work with exceptional attention to detail.

Additional preferred but not required attributes:

  • Industry related certifications such as California certified energy analyst (CEA), certified energy manager (CEM), building energy modeling professional (BEMP), LEED accredited professional, building energy assessment professional (BEAP) and/or commissioning authority (CxA) or Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or qualifications to enable achieving licensure
  • Experience working within California utility energy efficiency programs and an understanding of California Public Utility Commission policy.
  • Familiarity with California eTRM and deemed measure package requirements.
  • Experience working on construction cost estimates.

Education:

  • Minimum 4-year degree in technical field such as Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Construction Management, Building Science or closely related field
