We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to conduct basic and translational research in the field of oncology. The Research Technician will work in Drs. Nikhil Munshi/K. Anderson lab in the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our lab research interest involved multiple myeloma; and our studies have transformed myeloma therapy and patient survival over the last decades through the identification and validation of therapeutic targets in tumor cells and bone marrow microenvironment.

The positions in this job family will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity.  In general, they will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

The technician will be an integral member of our research team and will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity.

Current projects include studies on novel immunotherapeutic approaches for the treatment of myeloma and analysis of effect of experimental drugs in the context of the bone marrow microenvironment.

The role of The Lab Technician serves a very important and critical role in the flow of the laboratory’s research. Previous lab experience is encouraged as the candidate will be expected to independently carry out essential research functions in the laboratory that include but are not limited to:

• Cell culture
• Western blot analysis (immuno-precipitations and immunoblotting),
• RNA/DNA extractions, PCR and RT-PCR
• Transient transfection and lentiviral transduction
• Cloning and molecular biology techniques
• Performing cytotoxicity and proliferation assays
• Flow cytometry assays and experience with analysis (DIVA, FLOW-JO) is preferred.
• In vivo analysis
• Follows optimized protocols to process peripheral blood and bone marrow from patients with multiple myeloma on designated projects and tissue banking protocols
• Attends lab meetings and actively participates in communicating updates on sample intake for various protocols
• Maintains accurate electronic and physical sample inventories

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research Technician

No supervisory responsibilities.  Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.

• Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or immunology preferred. 
• Knowledge of information and techniques related to biology and immunology is preferred.
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of data management, word processing, graphic software (Excel, MS Word, Graphpad/PRISM) is preferred.
• Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.  Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
• Basic mathematic skillset and ability to work within a team environment.
• We are looking for candidates who have at least one year of availability.
