Summary of Position

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, perform work requiring skill in the trade of electrician for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, fixtures and wiring at UNH. Position may be either a Master or Journeyman. Responsible for providing excellent customer service, producing high quality electrical work. All electricians are expected to act as a department leaders to mentor apprentice personnel. Provide expertise in the electrical field for troubleshooting complex issues in addition to providing the services, knowledge, and responsibilities exclusive to electrical field.
UNH Facilities is a 24/7/365 operation and has responsibilities related to campus safety and emergency response. Due to the nature of our business, employees may be asked to flex schedules and/or respond to requests outside of normal working hours in order to meet the demands of the university. This may include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and DOT medical card (if applicable based on assigned vehicle weight).
3. Technical/vocational school graduation or equivalent apprenticeship
4. New Hampshire State Electrician’s Journeyman or Master license
5. Four years of work experience in the electrical field
6. Knowledge of applicable electric codes
7. Knowledge of methods, tools and hazards of the trade
8. Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematic diagrams and wire circuit drawings.
9. Ability to compute voltage amperage and resistance factors using simple algebraic formulas.
10. Ability to inspect equipment, determine malfunction and make necessary repairs.
11. Knowledge and ability to use computers, tablets, smart phones, and software systems to perform work duties.
12. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.
13. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.
14. Solid interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written, to effectively communicate with customers, team members, contractors and supervisors.

Duty/Responsibility

Service calls and customer service:
  • Respond to service calls and requests related to the operation, repair, maintenance, and installation and removal of electrical equipment.
  • Ensure work is of the highest quality while meeting all electrical and safety codes.
  • Troubleshoot minor and complex electrical issues and provide expert knowledge on solutions. Utilize electronic sources of trouble shooting and problem identification software.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to requests in a timely manner (according to priority timeframes), communicating status to the customer, and following up when the work is complete.
  • Using the work management software, maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, and respond to emergency situations, including during off hours, as needed.

Duty/Responsibility

Preventative maintenance and project work:
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities including periodic visual and hands on inspections to assigned equipment.
  • Update and maintain records in the work management software.
  • Participate and provide expertise in project management meetings regarding equipment replacement, renovations, and new building plans.
  • Complete other electrical project work as assigned.

Duty/Responsibility

Leadership and mentorship to the Facilities division.
  • Participate, support, and demonstrate Facilities Forward concepts and contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities during work activities.
  • Mentor, develop, and train apprentices and new employees.
  • Oversee and provide feedback about contractors working on campus in the field of electrical as needed.

Duty/Responsibility

Safety and training:
  • Follow all electrical codes and recognized policies/procedures, techniques and safety precautions in performance of duties.
  • Keep current on all required safety trainings, code license updates and any certifications required. Continuously seek out professional development opportunities that will benefit the University and your technical skills to stay current on technical skills and be knowledgeable of best practices, future trends and technologies.
