Job Description

The Department of Engineering Education ( DEE ), in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. Courtney Faber’s research group: ENLITE – Exploring Knowledge, Learning, and Identity to Transform Engineering Education. The initial appointment is for one year with possibility for an additional year of renewal. The ENLITE research group is passionate about exploring how fundamental beliefs about knowledge and knowing create barriers to learning and collaborations.

The ENLITE research group is currently conducting work in two areas:
  • Developing educational experiences that consider epistemic thinking
  • Empowering engineering educations scholars to impact change in engineering.

 

This position will be mentored by Dr. Courtney Faber and supported by local engineering education communities in the Department of Engineering Education at University at Buffalo (UB). There will also be opportunities to participate in professional development held by SEAS and UB.
Responsibilities and Activities

This Postdoctoral Associate position is a full-time appointment in which you will conduct research with Dr. Faber, participate in professional development activities, and have the opportunity to design your own study. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate on the development of new research studies and participate in preliminary data collection and analysis
  • Co-author journal publications and/or research proposals
  • Assist in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the research group
  • Present research at national conferences

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in engineering education, STEM education, or related field to be completed by August 2024
  • Experience conducting qualitative (interpretive) research
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience publishing STEM education journal articles
  • Experience conducting research using approaches from grounded theory and/or ethnography
  • Knowledge of theories related to epistemic thinking and/or identity
  • Experience and/or interest mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
