Individual Giving Officer, West Coast

Job Description

INDIVIDUAL GIVING OFFICER, WEST COAST, Resource Development, to assume the crucial responsibility of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding potential donors with the capacity to contribute $100,000 or more to MIT. Throughout the qualification process, will be guided and supervised by the senior director of OLG, working together to construct a targeted major gift portfolio. Will be tasked with formulating effective fundraising strategies, managing a specialized portfolio focused on key markets, and creating personalized solicitation plans that secure major gifts aligned with MIT's fundraising priorities.  Will also evaluate MIT alumni major gift prospects, assessing both their financial capacity and inclination to contribute, refer qualified prospects to development colleagues in the Office of Individual Giving (OIG) and Annual Leadership Giving (ALG), and take an active role in soliciting leadership-level annual gifts starting from $1,000 and above. To achieve these objectives, will be expected to collaborate seamlessly with Resource Development and Alumni Association staff, school-based fundraisers, MIT senior officers, alumni, and members of the Corporation Development Committee or other MIT volunteers.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree; at least two years’ relevant advancement experience; excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the emotional intelligence necessary to thoughtfully engage and build relationships with colleagues, faculty, alumni, volunteers and donors; excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening) and ability to engage effectively with faculty, leadership, administrative staff, donors, alumni, and other external constituents; proven record of accomplishment in a position requiring independent planning and problem solving and the effective utilization of time and resources; familiarity with business travel.  PREFERRED:  familiarity with the business markets within the assigned territory, and experience in a higher education organization.  Job #23622-8

This is a hybrid position with a combination of on-campus and remote work. Must be willing and able to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
