The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of faculty colleagues who teach and pursue scholarly projects in History, Peace Studies, Modern Languages, and Education. Applicants should have an academic focus on the Holocaust that does not duplicate existing departmental strengths in History of the Holocaust. Potential fields of interest include, but are not limited to, memory studies, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, political science, economics, trauma studies, psychology, or religious studies. Candidates should be able to contribute to the department at all academic levels, including in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Cohen Chair will teach four courses each academic year – two in their area of expertise and two as a regular instructor of the graduate-level Thesis course. Thesis course loads may change depending on student enrollment and department needs. This reduced teaching load demonstrates the college’s commitment to the position in making possible greater time for active scholarship, recruitment of students, departmental grant-writing and fundraising, and raising the profile of the department while still ensuring that they will be a vital part of the delivery of essential courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs.
The College has supported a Holocaust Resource Center since 1983 and a minor in Holocaust Studies since 2002. In accord with its public liberal arts mission, the College launched a new major in Holocaust & Genocide Studies in 2009, making Keene State College the first undergraduate institution in the country to offer a baccalaureate degree in this field.

By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitments to well-being and to sustainability that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners.
