Responsibilities

Clinical Social Worker at Longwood Medical Center; 20 hours/week

LCSW or LICSW Required

Exciting and challenging opportunity as a dedicated ambulatory social worker providing clinical social work services to patients and their families at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Longwood Medical Center location.  The social worker in this position will work in the Center for Early Detection and Interception (CEDI) providing psychosocial counseling services to adult patients and families. The CEDI is specifically for individuals who have an increased risk of developing cancer; the goals of the Center are to detect cancer sooner and stop pre-cancerous conditions from progressing.

Position calls for psychosocial assessment and intervention to address needs and concerns, crisis intervention, consultation, and ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to reduce distress and improve quality of life. Position calls for best practice intervention, collaboration, and consultation related to this patient population. Counseling will be delivered both individually as well as through psychoeducational group programming.

This ambulatory social work role provides in-person and telehealth services to patients and families (i.e., phone/Zoom video); modalities include individual, family, and group work. Candidate must be able to thrive in a fast paced, complex, academic medical environment where the social worker is a key, valued member of the multidisciplinary medical team.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as coordinator and clinician on referral cases in collaboration with DFCI oncology and psychosocial clinicians.
  • Provide triage and short-term psychosocial care to patients and families.
  • Assist patients and families seeking coordinated therapeutic matches for mental health and wellness services.
  • Research, identify, and liaison with programs and community-based providers for patients and families experiencing a spectrum of needs.
  • Serve as coordinator for educational and support programs offered to patients and families.
  • Work with clinical staff, patients and families to identify areas of need for improved education and support of CEDI patients and families. Develop innovative materials and educational and support programs to meet these needs.
  • Lead and co-lead educational and support programs delivered in person or remotely via videoconference.
  • Work on special projects/programs/committees reflecting the needs of individuals at high risk for patients.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from accredited program
  • Massachusetts license (LCSW or LICSW)
  • Previous experience in health care and/or behavioral health setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to respond to psychosocial needs and concerns across a broad spectrum of ages within the patient population
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience leading psychoeducation and support groups preferred
  • Experience conducting psychosocial triage, assessment and referral for adult patients with anxiety, depression and other mental disorders preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of systemic inequities, their impact on patients, families, and the community at large
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity efforts, including advocacy and self-education to advance knowledge base of the needs and concerns of underserved and marginalized populations
  • Strong patient engagement and clinical assessment skills
  • Crisis intervention and treatment skills

  • Excellent communication, oral and written

Schedule

20 hours/week

Hybrid schedule 2 days on-site/1 day remote
