Job Description
The Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is currently accepting applications for a part-time Baker/Culinary Chef faculty position, teaching short-term non-credit classes to adult students. These classes are offered by the Workforce Development & Continuing Education Lifelong Learning Institute. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach/facilitate classes in baking/decorating pastries, scones, cookies, muffins, etc. in the Spring Semester 2024. These classes are taught in person at the Marriott Kitchen on Montgomery College's Rockville Campus. Classes include: The Complete Guide to Baking and Decorating Cupcakes, 3/18/24, 6 – 8:30 p.m.; The Great British Baking Show 4/8/24, 6 – 8:30 p.m. and Healthy Baking, 2/26/24, 6 – 8:30 p.m. (this class is offered on line via Zoom). Other assignments will be available for future semesters.
- Develop curriculum and conduct teaching demonstrations.
- Order ingredients, prepare individual trays with ingredients for students, demonstrate baking/decorating techniques; and make learning engaging and fun.
- Take attendance and post grades.
- Apply culturally relevant and empathetic strategies to the teaching and learning process.
- Ensure safe classroom environment.
Required Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. Degree in a related field or a related professional certification.
- ServSafe Manager Certification.
- Experience delivering baking courses in person.
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, the community college philosophy and mission.
- Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.
- Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
- Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
