Job Description

 

Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study,
including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General
Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited
community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+
students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage
population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties
as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

Responsibilities
The Executive Director of Foundation reports internally to the College President and externally to
the Foundation Board of Trustees. The Executive Director will focus significantly on cultivation
and major gift solicitation to support non-discretionary gift giving and campaign-focused goals.
The Executive Director is a central facilitator, liaison, and champion of connecting and building
partnerships between donors, alumni, and organizational leaders in an effort to promote
institutional progress and growth through philanthropic support of capital improvements, program
growth, facility upgrades and overall campus facility development. The Executive Director will
develop major gift proposals and facilitate asks. The Executive Director also serves as the Director
of the College Foundation.

Qualifications
Master's degree preferred. Bachelor's degree with at least five years of responsible experience in
fundraising and capital campaign oversight. At least five years of experience working in a capacity
where cultivation and raising recourses is a focus. This must include fundraising and capital
campaign oversight and proven success. Experience in a higher education setting, particularly a
community college, is preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee capital campaign(s), major gift solicitation, and leadership of the development
office. As part of this work, the Executive Director will work to build successful and
sustainable working relationships with employee team members, Foundation Board
Members, College Board of Trustees, and the community to establish, sustain, and guide a
strong culture of philanthropy and connection to the College.
  • Create, nurture, and lead a culture of philanthropic support and progress to promote and
advance the five directions of the College of the college by effectively recruiting,
motivating, and managing volunteers. Document prospect strategies and contact reports;
evaluate new prospects and generate stewardship reports. This should be fulfilled in
partnership with the Associate Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement.
  • Plan and implement development strategy that includes identifying measurable targets for
each fiscal year (e.g., personal visits, stewardship activities, solicitations, asks). Manage
general correspondence daily to cultivate major gifts prospects.
  • Although the Executive Director will report to the President of the College, s/he will
perform duties and responsibilities assigned by the Foundation Board without interference
from the College President. The Executive Director will also serve as the Secretary of the
Foundation.

 

 

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range: Salary commensurate to education and experience
