Qualifications: Education
Master's Degree Must have graduate degree in Nursing Required

Experience
7 years of professional nursing practice Required

Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse (RN) State And/Or Compact State Licensure Current and valid state of Arizona registered nurse (RN) license Required
Specialty nursing certification required within 12 months of hire. Certification in nursing administration preferred. Required

Responsibilities: Job Summary
The Director of Professional Practice provides visionary leadership to individuals and interdisciplinary teams within the Center for Clinical Excellence and across the organization. Collaborates with senior leadership, management, and physician colleagues to achieve program goals. This role requires the application of significant previous experience and existing knowledge in the areas of Magnet Recognition Program, evidence-based practice (EBP), clinical practice standards, and clinical outcomes data. The Director will be responsible for overseeing activities within the organization related to professional clinical practice, EBP, and clinical outcomes improvement. The Director of Professional Practice: works closely with leadership and staff to promote a culture of inquiry; manages change-management with department directors/clinical managers and facilitates effective change; designs PI processes specific to systems and maintains oversight of the collecting and analyzing of PI data as it relates to NDNQI data; designs and produces reports as required; works on organizational initiatives focusing on quality clinical outcomes; participates in hospital and/or departmental performance improvement activities; works effectively with other departments in carrying out duties; facilitates the development and evolution of professional governance; coaches/mentors chairpersons and members of unit, campus and network professional practice and shared governance councils; promotes integration of best practices and standard work through the Honor Excellence program; ensures clinical policies reflect current evidence, appropriate professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Transformational Leadership
    Reviews and contributes to nursing’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan to maintain alignment with the organization’s priorities to improve performance. Establishes and implements strategies and programs to inspire, promote, and advance the professional development of clinical staff. Provides education and guidance to members of clinical leaders and teams in shared governance, clinical care delivery systems, and performance and outcomes improvement. Implements and/or oversees professional development strategies intended to enhance the delivery of clinical care and the professional growth of staff. Seeks, gathers, and uses clinical nurse input to influence change in the organization. Engages front line staff to inform clinical and practice priorities and improve outcomes.
  • Structural Empowerment
    Responsible for assessing, designing, delivering, and evaluating quality professional development programs for clinical staff. Ensures access to certification preparation and continuing education courses and monitors activity. Collaborates with interprofessional stakeholders to assess professional education and/ or learning needs and performance outcomes. Develops strategies to advance knowledge in evidence base practice and research across the continuum of care and lifecycle of clinical employees. Ensures policies and procedures are compliant with Federal, State, and local regulations and accreditation standards. Monitors the practice of employees in roles that require an active, unrestricted nursing license, nursing certification and/or credential. Participates in standard of practice reviews with applicable CNO, service line and HR leaders, as appropriate and within parameters of Just Culture. Promotes shared decision‐making and fosters staff empowerment across the continuum of care.
  • Exemplary Professional Practice
    Oversees development, implementation and evaluation of the professional practice model and engages clinical nurses in these activities. Assesses need and evaluates current and future professional clinical practices. Plans, organizes, directs, and contributes to activities to ensure compliance with standards for nursing excellence and recognition programs, including but not limited to the Magnet Recognition Program. Ensures the integration of innovative strategies that build a culture of clinical excellence and reliable care. Employs strategies to improve clinical outcomes. Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of evidenced‐based clinical practice standards that elevate clinical performance. Ensures performance indicators are outcomes focused, evidence‐based and drive improvements in clinical practice. Supports front line leaders in the implementation of clinical delivery systems designed to advance professional clinical practice. Serves as a role model and subject matter expert in Evidence Based Practice (EBP) project design and implementation. Remains abreast of innovative patient care delivery programs being tested and/or implemented throughout the country.
  • New Knowledge, Innovations & Improvements
    Serves as Co-Chair of REDI Council and liaison to Research Institute to support advancement of nursing research across the continuum of care. Facilitates opportunities to promote clinical activities through community relations and legislative efforts. Mentors staff, in collaboration with Nurse Scientists and/or Advance Practice Nurses, to increase the number of nurses engaging in activities that enhance the clinical practice and experience of care. Develops measures to track progress and outcomes of practice and research projects. Publishes and/or presents professional practice or research activities. Facilitates internal and external dissemination of new knowledge, innovations, and improvements. Supports staff in preparing abstracts, slide presentations, and posters for national presentation. Participates in the submission of grant requests, which support research, professional development, and/or practice enhancement. Collaboration with front line caregivers to plan, develop, and implement creative strategies for generating conference revenue for the organization.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and achievement of Clinical Workforce Plan measures of success. In collaboration with CNOs and Center of Excellence partners, supports patient outcomes coordinators to achieve performance targets. Displays a commitment to the value of teamwork by building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Cooperates and collaborates in the performance of responsibilities to promote a unified and spirited workplace. Employs effective engagement strategies and teambuilding skills to promote good staff relations. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with medical staff and other departments to improve service and enhance quality.
