POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Human Resource Manager is responsible for executing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale’s human resource operations by leading and managing the routine functions of the Human Resources department including recruitment, compensation, benefits, regulatory compliance, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence and employee development. This employee leads all tactical aspects of human resources for the purpose of shaping the success of BGCS. This employee will also manage and oversee the BGCS Volunteer Program, including onboarding, training, recruiting, and engagement of volunteers. This role will be a champion of the BGCS culture and values. This role has no direct reports.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
Human Resource Administration:
  • Manages employee recruitment and employment process, including posting positions, extending job offers, coordinating pre-employment processes, and entering new employees into HRIS/Payroll System.
  • Orients and onboards new employees including conducting background checks and employee verifications.
  • Administers employee benefits and runs open enrollment. Serves as point of contact when benefit questions arise.
  • Manages worker’s compensation claims and reporting.
  • Manages employee leaves of absence.
  • Develops and delivers training on a variety of topics. Tracks employee participation in BGCA and BGCS training programs.
  • Implements employee recognition programs.
  • Coordinates HRIS, including migration to new systems when applicable.
  • Serves as vital source of human resource information, answering questions regarding policies, procedures, processes, and legal compliance.
  • First contact for employee relations concerns and elevates them to the Chief People Officer when necessary. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, hearings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Handles employment- related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors and refers sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Manages performance management process.
  • Maintains employee and department records.
  • Assembles, prepares, and analyzes data on a regular basis.
  • Conducts exit interviews and termination processes.
  • Manages recruitment, onboarding, tracking, and engagement of BGCS Volunteer Program.
 
Leadership:
  • Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
  • Implements policies and procedures for the effective management of BGCS human resources, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Club mission, vision, and values.
  • Creates a dynamic, positive work environment for all Club staff. Provides coaching and training opportunities, redirection, and encouragement.
  • Provides information to leadership to support decision-making about policy issues, employee relations, training and development, performance management, and recruitment.
  • Executes operational functions of Human Resources.
  • Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.
 
Resource Management:
  • Controls expenditures against Human Resources budget, particularly in the areas of recognition, employee training and development.
  • Promotes awareness of the Club in the community to stimulate interest in employment opportunities, including recruitment ideas and career fairs.
  • Executes all workforce planning activities including recruiting, onboarding, promotions, demotions, transfers, and terminations.
  • Evaluates benefit practices ensuring effective administration of day-to-day operations and compliance with Affordable Care Act requirements.
  • Partners with Chief People Officer and management to build high-performing teams by establishing annual performance objectives and administering periodic informal and formal feedback tools.
  • Manages learning and development programs that encourage employee growth and promote retention.
  • Encourages proactive strategies for responding to employee relations issues to foster a positive work environment.
  • Ensures legally compliant human resource practices, systems, and recordkeeping.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for BGCS Volunteer Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 
 
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
 
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience managing and performing human resource duties.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and build strong relationships.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time-management skills. Must be able to prioritize workload to changing needs and remain calm under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite applications. Working knowledge of human resource information and payroll platforms.
  • Flawless ethics and integrity.
  • Safety oriented mindset.
 
Recommended:
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
  • Experience in a non-profit setting.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
