Job Description

 

Job Summary

 

Direct, implement, and manage the day-to-day operations of the Veterans Resource Center and Veterans Lounge for Military-Affiliated Students (MAS) by providing physical and virtual services district-wide.

 

Essential Functions

 

Develop, recommend, implement, administer, and evaluate programs and services for Veterans and MAS. Prepare for federal and state audits. Coordinate and collaborate with other programs within and outside the District to enhance the college experience for Veterans and MAS.

Direct, coordinate, and assess the day-to-day operations of the Veterans Resource Center and Veterans Lounge. Plan, develop, facilitate, and collaborate with campus departments on a wide range of student development services, college persistence, and retention initiatives. Establish the Veteran's New Student Orientation, Student Success Initiatives, and make referrals to on and off-campus resources.

Oversee the case management process for incoming Veteran students from initial application processing to course enrollment, graduation, and employment, and foster and support transition activities.

Develop and maintain essential and effective ongoing communication with local communities and organizations, including the Education Services Officer of the local military installation, military/veteran education, and various Veteran's organizations related to local, state, and federal agencies, community support services, and Veteran Affairs (VA). Serve as liaison and representative for the College with state, regional, and national organizations. Serve on local and national committees and task forces.

Gather and maintain data and statistical information to ensure appropriate services are provided to prospective and current Veteran students. Recommend new initiatives according to identified needs. Set and lead in the development of short- and long-term department goals. Prepare and submit reports, compile and evaluate data.

Develop, recommend, implement, and direct internal control procedures, operational standards, and policies and procedures that ensure regulatory compliance. Ensure implementation of approved programs and modify as appropriate.

Provide personnel management to staff, including performance evaluation, guidance, and support concerning professional development. Develop and mentor training for staff on policies and procedures. Develop and manage the office budget and grants to ensure compliance.

Generate and conduct presentations. Promote the Veterans Resource Center through various outreach methods, including workshops and outreach events on campus and in the community.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

1. Master's Degree and five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
 
2. Strong problem-solving and project management experience and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

3. Knowledge of military benefits, terminology, and programs to include services to persons with disabilities, community resources, and Veterans Assistance programs.

4. Ability to research, understand, analyze, and interpret complex federal and state regulations.

5. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with community partners.

6. Experience managing and supervising personnel.

7. Ability to conduct presentations and workshops.

8. Experience developing and executing budgets.

9. Experience generating reports.

10. Ability to research and apply for grants that support the Veterans Resource Center Initiative.

11. Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices related to veterans and higher education.

Special Conditions:

1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College’s policies and procedures.

Copies of transcripts must reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from an accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.

Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.

Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
