Executive Director of Faculty Diversity

We are seeking an Executive Director of Faculty Diversity, to whom will work in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to support the Associate Vice Provost of Faculty Diversity in developing and managing programs and initiatives, creating centralized resources, and building strong partnerships in an effort to enhance the recruitment, retention, and success of diverse faculty at Johns Hopkins University.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Executive Director will serve as a senior administrator at Johns Hopkins for matters related to faculty diversity initiatives, prioritizing the strategic faculty goals in the Second Roadmap on Diversity Equity and Inclusion.
  • Developing and managing key initiatives, including the Fannie Gaston-Johannson Faculty Excellence Program and the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
  • Collaborates with key faculty and staff stakeholders to design and implement short and long strategic initiatives focused on supporting faculty.
  • Creating community building and networking opportunities for diverse faculty.
  • Building a robust accountability and assessment system to track program compliance and outcomes metrics.
  • Tracking national best practices in recruitment, retention, and advancement of diverse faculty and creating a database of curated resources for academic divisional partners responsible for supporting and leading these efforts.
  • Work with the office of faculty diversity staff to responsibly review, allocate, and manage fiscal resources.
  • Work closely with the Director of Disability, Culture, and Inclusion to develop and manage comprehensive supports for our faculty with disabilities.
  • Work with academic divisional leadership to establish, promote, and implement professional development, leadership development, and mentoring opportunities for faculty.
  • Develop education and professional development opportunities for academic divisional leaders responsible for directing programs that impact faculty.
  • Work with the Office of Faculty Affairs, and other institutional partners, to develop and deliver new faculty orientation, as well as orientations and retreats for department and division chairs, Associate Deans, Vice Presidents, and Vice Provosts.
  • Develop and implement programs to recognize and honor faculty.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of information and resources to aid in faculty recruitment and retention efforts and encourage fair and robust search processes.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Faculty Affairs to promote educational innovation in the curriculum and inclusion in the classroom.
  • Work alongside the Associate Vice Provost of the JHU Provost Leadership Advancement and Development Academy and their staff to further their mission of “creating a unified academic community that embraces robust collaboration across world-class teaching, research, and community service”.
  • Troubleshoot and respond to and resolving issues and concerns brought to the Associate Vice Provost of Faculty Diversity.
  • Coordinate and track project timelines and budgets (e.g., provide routine reporting on expenses in relation to budget, approve shopping carts, check/travel/reimbursement requests, and invoices, prepare financial reports and documents related to various projects, review expense patterns and conduct operational reviews to identify cost cutting and cost containment measure, ensure compliance with JHU policies, meet with budget office on a quarterly basis to review financial statement, etc.).

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Experience in directing faculty support/leadership development programs or initiatives.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Application Processing Platforms.
  • Action-oriented to follow up on feedback to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adjust to constant changes, handle multiple tasks, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to keep complex records, assemble and organize complex data, prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple programs and assignments.
  • Ability to manage projects within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the attainment of divisional and institutional goals and objectives.
  • Excellent time-management skills, including attention to detail, and the ability to problem-solve.
  • Experience in events management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary settings, as a part of a team or independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with External and Internal Program staff and administration, faculty, staff, and students across campus and at other institutions.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal Degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DEd, JD) in a related area.
  • At least 4 years of related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience in accordance with the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in research training and education in an academic environment.
  • Experience providing communications and/or partner engagement support for faculty diversity related programs.
  • Experience working with complex institutions of higher education.
  • Experience working in a decentralized environment.

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines:
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
