Family Development Services is a Non-Profit Organization headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, that is responsible for supporting the largest Headstart program in the state of Indiana. With 10 locations, Family Development Services provides services across the greater Indianapolis area.

The Headstart program provides critical foundational education for Early Childhood students. In addition to Early Headstart and Preschool programming, programs with Family Development Services also include essential wrap around services to provide a higher quality of life for children and their families.

The Behavioral Specialist provides expertise and implement quality control measures to ensure quality service delivery that meets the Head Start Performance Standards, applicable federal and state laws and regulations and the outcome measures required by the agency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral problems.
  • Design, implement, and follow up on behavioral management programs for students to remediate behavioral and social problems.
  • Participate in the development of the individual educational programs for these students.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to these students on a regular basis to include socialization activities (e.g., reality therapy, play therapy, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain psychosocial and behavioral data on these students.
  • Assist other professionals with student crisis intervention.
  • Plan and confer with the classroom teacher of these students as requested concerning any behavioral, social or personal problems affecting the students.
  • Develop and conduct in-service activities regarding techniques for behavioral, social or personal problems of students.
  • Assist the teacher of these students with the development of crisis prevention plans.
  • Provide training for paraprofessionals with the programs in the areas of behavior management skills and affective education.
  • Coordinate and conduct individual parent education and counseling sessions with the parents of these students.
  • Assist parent in locating and obtaining community resources which are available to these students and their families.
  • Update and maintain information concerning parent training.
  • Conduct home visits to work with family as needed.
  • Participate as a team member in referring those students who require further evaluation of follow-up services to the appropriate personnel or community agencies.
  • Assist with case-management and team problem-solving with other behavioral specialists, agency personnel, and other appropriate professionals on a regular basis.
  • Actively support the vision and mission statement of Family Development Services.
  • Participate in functional behavior assessments, identify areas of concern and formulate corrective action plan.
  • Develop and/or use a plan of instruction outlined in a child's IFSP/IEP/BMP.
  • Use diagnostic methods to identify students' academic, social, emotional needs.
  • Assist the Special Needs Coordinator.
  • Submit periodic reports to the Special Needs Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); Master's degree in Social Work, Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology, Emotionally Handicapped, Mentally Handicapped, Behavior Psychology, or related field; at least two years' experience working as a Mental Health specialist, Social Worker, or Counselor with preschool and/or elementary children.
  • Ability to read & interpret documents such as Head Start Performance Standards, SOP's, & IFSP/IEP reports
  • Comfortable with Traveling Position Daily to 10 Locations within Indianapolis area
  • Mathematical skills for daily reporting needs
  • Ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Universal Precautions Certification
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills and use good judgement
  • Strong Office 365 Skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
