Job Description

The Dept of English, Linguistics and Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a Lecturer on the Educator Track Scheme, to begin in July or August 2024.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD in Linguistics and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching load on the Educator Track is equivalent to a 3:3 load (three courses per semester, totaling six per academic year) and the successful candidate will be expected to teach large foundational courses and as well as advanced courses in discourse studies. There will also be opportunities to supervise student research.

Application Materials

Applications should include the following documents to be uploaded as attachments:

  1. A brief cover letter highlighting the applicant’s educational background and major accomplishments in teaching, as well as courses that the applicant would be interested in teaching;
  2. A complete curriculum vitae;
  3. A teaching portfolio comprising
    1. a Preface (maximum 300 words) that should be a highly distilled summary of the applicant’s key contributions to student learning and educational leadership (if applicable), guided by their teaching philosophy, and
    2. a Teaching Statement (maximum 3,000 words, excluding appendices) that focuses on evidence of student learning and educational leadership (if applicable). Non-exhaustive examples of such evidence include the applicant’s reflections on their educational approach/teaching philosophy (required), information on courses taught and sample course materials (required), and student feedback (required). Appendices must not exceed 30 pages.

Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted to ellsec@nus.edu.sgPlease do not include any from the main supervisor of the applicant’s PhD thesis; the Search Committee will write separately to the applicant’s main supervisor. For full consideration, please submit a complete application, including letters of recommendation, by January 31, 2024. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
