Job Description

Faculty Positions in Cellular and Integrative Physiology

The Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology (CIP) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) invites applicants for tenure track faculty positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek outstanding individuals working in any area of molecular, cellular, or integrative physiology. Areas of particular interest that would complement expertise of current faculty include cardiovascular metabolism, the microbiome, and mitochondrial, extracellular vesicle, and glycoprotein biology as applied to understanding mechanisms in cardiac, vascular, and renal health and disease.

Our students, postdoctoral researchers and staff come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. We seek to hire amazing talent among the faculty that reflects this same diversity. Individuals from diverse backgrounds, underrepresented minorities and women scientists are strongly encouraged to apply. The department offers a highly supportive environment for mentoring and career development of early career faculty.

Successful candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor will have established a strong record of research, and evidence of ability to develop an externally funded research program. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor should have an extramurally funded research program and an outstanding record of teaching and service. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose research is translational or addresses fundamental questions related to molecular mechanisms of biological or biomedical relevance that complements ongoing research in the department.

The department has a tradition of expertise in cardiac, vascular, neural, and renal physiology. Current CIP research programs span a wide range of topics and approaches, including electrophysiology, cardiovascular imaging, calcium signaling, redox biology, membrane proteins, microRNA, transcriptomics, proteomics, glycomics, and systems physiology. Current efforts include research with relevance to cardiac, vascular, and renal physiology and diseases including hypertension, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and kidney injury. Synergy exists with initiatives of cross-departmental research centers and institutes throughout the university, including the UNMC Center for Heart and Vascular Research (https://www.unmc.edu/chvr). Additional information about the department is available at https://www.unmc.edu/physiology/.

UNMC has a highly interactive research environment with vigorous interdisciplinary graduate and medical scientist training programs. Successful candidates will contribute to graduate, allied health, and/or medical education.

UNMC attracts more than $173 million in extramural research dollars annually and is located in the city of Omaha (metro area population ~1M), often included in listings of best places to live and work due to its affordable cost of living, strong job market, safety, outstanding public schools, and recreational opportunities (www.visitomaha.com ).

Completed applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, starting immediately. For full consideration, applications should be received by February 1, 2024. Applicants may contact Dr. Rebekah Gundry, CIP Chair, for more information: rebekah.gundry@unmc.edu .
