Position Description: | General

- Engineering: Has knowledge of and experience with designing, modeling, and executing the analysis of complex systems.

- Project Management: Able to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.
Specific
- Collaborating with Principal Investigators (Don Anderson and Geb Thomas), develop computational design and modeling-based research strategies to test hypotheses in support of project goals.
- Develop novel computational analysis tools to address relevant research questions using source materials that include medical imaging and annotations.
- Establish proof-of-concept capabilities of the modeling and participate in its validation.
- Conduct computational modeling research related to better understanding how to objectively measure skills performance in the operating room.
- Hypothesis generation, design and execution of research studies focusing on the role of skills training on performance in the operating room.
- Supervise undergraduate research assistants working in the research group.
- Assist the Principal Investigators with mentoring of graduate research assistants.
- Write and submit abstracts to national meetings for presentation. Also prepare manuscripts, analyze data, and interpret results.

Education Requirement: | Education Required
- PhD in an engineering discipline.

Required Qualifications: | Experience Requirements
- At least 3 years of research experience in orthopedics relating to the computational analysis of medical image-based data, especially in the context of using artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches.
- Solid publication record in peer-reviewed national and international orthopedic, biomechanics, and/or industrial engineering journals that have been indexed in PubMed.
- Experience presenting research at national and regional meetings.
- Ability to apply complex engineering principles and to synthesize those principles with non-mechanical outcome modalities, including medical imaging or similar.
- Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts and ideas in written, verbal, and presentation settings with departmental and organizational management.
- Excellent academic written and verbal communication skills.
