Postdoctoral Appointee - Materials Integration and Evaluation for low temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers

Argonne

Job Description

The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Materials Group at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a postdoctoral appointee. This position is directed at integrating state-of-the-art catalysts and newly developed catalysts into low-temperature fuel cells, water electrolyzers, and carbon dioxide electrolyzers and understanding the factors limiting their device-level performance and durability and developing cell designs and methods to overcome these limitations.

This position is directed at designing, building, and utilizing tools and techniques for characterizing low-temperature fuel cells, water electrolyzers, and carbon dioxide electrolyzers.  This position involves diagnostic studies of fuel cells and electrolyzers using a variety of electrochemical techniques and also evaluation of the components and materials using ex situ techniques.

Position Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the design, fabrication, electrochemical characterization, and factors governing the performance and durability of low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the design of methods and instruments for the characterization of low temperature electrocatalysts, electrodes, and electrochemical devices

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative multi-institutional team are required

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, mechanical or chemical engineering, or physics at the Ph.D. degree level with 0-3 years of experience or equivalent in practical laboratory experience in the areas described in the job description
