Postdoctoral Appointee - X-ray characterization of low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers

Job Description


The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Materials Group at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a postdoctoral appointee. This position is directed at characterizing low-temperature fuel cell and electrolyzer materials and electrodes using synchrotron X-ray techniques at Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source (APS), in particular nano-computed tomography (nano-CT), X-ray scattering, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and nuclear resonance scattering.  It is also directed at conventional Mossbauer spectroscopy studies of materials.

Position Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of acquisition of X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) data using synchrotron sources and analysis and fitting of extended X-ray absorption spectroscopy data

  • Experience in the characterization of porous media using X-ray nano-CT and numerical reconstruction of nano-CT data

  • Experience in X-ray scattering characterization of materials is beneficial

  • Experience in electrochemistry and electrocatalysis is beneficial

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative multi-institutional team are required

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, materials science, mechanical or chemical engineering, or physics at the Ph.D. degree level with 0-3 years of experience or equivalent in practical laboratory experience in the areas described in the job description
