Job Description Summary:
Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia, participate in the University’s Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD, etc.), and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students.
Job Description:

The University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC) is seeking a postdoctoral associate for its Community Outreach and Engagement program.

The postdoctoral associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Ronald Chen, Joe and Jean Brandmeyer Endowed Professor and KUCC Associate Director of Health Equity. In addition, there are multiple outstanding faculty and staff in the Community Outreach and Engagement program with whom the postdoctoral associate will collaborate.

The University of Kansas Cancer Center is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center where patients gain access to the most promising therapies, cutting-edge clinical trials and world class research.

Required Qualifications

Education: PhD in health services research, population health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, or a related discipline.

Work Experience:

  • Familiarity in cancer disparities and implementation science.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods, study design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Proficiency in SAS, R, Stata, or other statistical programming language/software.
  • History of peer-reviewed publication. 

Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Job Duties Outlined:

The candidate will engage in work related to the following areas of focus: 

  • Assessing cancer burden and needs of the KUCC catchment area, which includes the State of Kansas and Western Missouri.
  • Assessing disparities (racial, ethnic, urban/rural, etc.) in cancer burden and needs in the KUCC catchment area.
  • Identifying opportunities for and implementing evidence-based interventions to reduce the cancer burden and needs in the KUCC catchment area.
  • Evaluating the activities of the community outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Analyzing and publishing data on the work listed above.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
