Summary

Our brain tumor research laboratory is currently seeking an outstanding Research Assistant II to join our group focused on mechanisms regulating stem and progenitor cell function in the pediatric brain tumor, medulloblastoma. We are looking for an energetic, curious and highly organized candidate who will manage the day-to-day activities of the lab, help train new students and postdoctoral fellows, run experiments, maintain equipment, and work with vendors on lab orders. 
 


Job Duties
  • Plans, directs, and conducts research experiments.
  • Prepares and puts in place equipment for scheduled use.
  • Consults with Principal Investigator (PI) to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of   existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • May supervise, schedule, and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
  • Tracks and maintains laboratory inventory.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment through Jaggaer and Voyager.
  • Arranges service calls for equipment as necessary.
  • Trains junior technicians and students.
  • Prepares solutions for use.
  • Performs preclinical experiments with mice including injections of tumor cells and drugs when needed (oral gavage,   SC, and IP).
  • Harvest and prepares tissue from animal work for immunohistochemistry.-Assist in writing animal protocols, amendments and renewals.
  • Monitors all ongoing animal experiments.
  • Images tumors in animal models. 
  • Isolates and purifies human cells from intracerebellar medulloblastoma xenograft models for downstream analyses in molecular work (PCR, immunoblotting, sequencing) and cell culture.
  • Performs intracerebellar transplantation of tumor cells into animal models. 
  • Maintains lab animal records for post-approval monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field. 
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in basic science or related field.
  • Experience with handling mice and general animal care techniques highly preferred.
  • Experience with cell culture.
