Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Assistant Director. Under the supervision of the Director of the Intercultural Resource Center, this position will serve as an Assistant Director of Undocumented/DACA Student Support.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Assisting in the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services offered by the Intercultural Resource Center to engage and support undocumented students, as well as students from mixed-status families, at Rutgers University-Newark.
  • Identifying opportunities, collaborating and maintaining relationships and partnerships within Rutgers-Newark and the community to create, develop, and implement programs and services that support the retention and success of undocumented students at Rutgers-Newark.
  • Developing and implementing mentoring programs, workshops, educational trainings, community-building activities, cultural events and provide general advocacy and support designed to meet undocumented student needs.
  • Liaises with University/System offices including Admissions, the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounting, Disability Services, Student Health, Counseling, Dean of Students, Student Life, Academic Deans, Tutoring, Career Development, and legal clinical office.
  • Will also develop relationships and collaborate with local agencies and community organizations to provide students with additional avenues to resources and programming opportunities for students and the community.
  • Regularly assesses the needs of undocumented students in order to develop holistic action plans to better serve future undocumented students.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program design and execution, coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
  • Also requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function that includes coordination of work and management of people; good communication skills; and computer literacy.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge about and experience working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community and the matrix of identities within which they reside, across race, ethnicity, faith, class, sex, ability, etc This is necessary to adequately serve the student population that this department serves. Background in college student development and/or knowledge of college student development theories/philosophies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, education, student affairs, conflict resolution or related field.
  • Experience in working and advocating for Undocumented students.
  • Experience working directly with Undocumented students.
  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience in student affairs
