Job Description


The Yale Department of Astronomy invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work in the group of Professor Malena Rice. This is a one-year position that will be renewed annually for up to three years, contingent upon performance. The applicant will conduct research in the areas of exoplanet and/or solar system science. Particular topics of interest include exoplanet dynamics, stellar spectroscopy, and outer solar system detection.

Yale offers a lively academic community and access to world-class astronomical facilities, including the Keck and Palomar telescopes. Because Yale is an institutional member of the SDSS-IV and SDSS-V collaborations, the successful applicant can automatically join both. Postdocs in the Yale Department of Astronomy also have access to High-Performance Computing facilities at Yale. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate with others across the Yale Department of Astronomy, Department of Physics, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and Department of Statistics and Data Science, among others.

The starting date of this position is flexible, with a nominal start date of August 1, 2024.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., or equivalent degree in physics, astrophysics, or a closely related field by the start of the position. A background in exoplanet or solar system science, especially related to population studies and/or dynamics, is desirable.
