The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation’s leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute’s efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center 
Posting Summary
Rutgers Institute for Nicotine & Tobacco Studies, located in New Brunswick, is seeking a Research Project Manager. The position plays a key role in research grants, developing and overseeing the research activities associated with multiple projects and partners addressing tobacco-related health disparities. Reporting to an Associate Professor at the Institute, the Research Project Manager provides research support in the development and implementation of various tobacco health disparities-related research programs and will serve as a primary contact for internal and external partners, as well as community collaborators.
Duties will include:
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Study Team, internal and external partners, and community collaborators.
  • Establish and maintain a Team site for utilization by internal partners to facilitate project communication and coordination.
  • Plan, schedule, and implement regular meetings, web-conferences, and conference calls with internal, external, and community academic partners.
  • Implement project plans, track project tasks and deliverables, resolve and escalate project issues in a timely fashion.
  • Draft and implement study protocols, data collection instruments, and data collection and management systems.
  • Oversee IRB submissions for each project.
  • Conduct data collection activities, including focus groups and key informant interviews, and preliminary analysis of study data.
  • Supervise research staff and assist with facilitating development opportunities to advance skills and knowledge base.
  • Train and provide quality control for research assistants and project staff in data entry, documentation, and management to assure project needs and priorities are addressed appropriately through research activities.
  • Interface with administrative staff/Business Office to secure vendor contracts, service agreements, subawards, and other purchasing required for successful completion of the research.
  • Work with faculty in producing manuscripts, presentations, reports and updates for study projects.
  • Track project progress, work products, and resources; prepare progress reports; and interface with Research Office to fulfill reporting requirements.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Master’s degree plus three (3) years of experience with population research. Ph.D. Preferred.
  • Working knowledge of tobacco control is preferred. 
  • Experience in the management of large, complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. 
  • Applicants may substitute the required degree for appropriate experience on a year-for-year basis. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Specialist certification strongly preferred. Qualitative and quantitative research experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with data management systems such as Qualtrics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of University research office procedures and processes is preferred.

Regular travel required to Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia.
