Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state. 
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IV for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The mission of the Food Innovation Center – Analytical Chemistry is to provide analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry services in support of the other FIC locations. This location has specialized in research quality mass spectrometry and data interpretation for over 30 years. The position will be housed at the FIC-Chemistry facility located on the Rutgers New Brunswick Campus in the Food and Nutritional Sciences Building. The Mass Spectrometry Lab works with University and industry clients on a fee for service basis using advanced analytical techniques. The position reports to the Laboratory Director.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Responsible for preparation of samples for chemical analysis.
  • Performa sample intake and cataloging.
  • Performs routine chemical experiments and analyses,
  • Organizes and spreadsheets analytical data.
  • Assists in complex, specialized experiments.
  • Maintains an organized and safe laboratory environment.
  • Multi-tasks and undertakes several projects simultaneously in order to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work independently when conducting routine analyses and be able to follow written or verbal instructions.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Chemistry, Food Science, or allied field required.
  • Requires relevant professional experience working in a laboratory technician function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with basic bench chemistry techniques and practices (pipetting, liquid/liquid extraction, centrifugation, pH measurement, etc.).
