Position Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor.  Responsibilities include leading and supporting basic and translational research in the effects of pregnancy on neurodevelopment. The applicant will provide scientific expertise in support of neurodevelopmental translational research, generate new proposals for intramural and extramural research funding both as PI and co-PI, as well as contribute to ongoing funded research activities.


Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.


 

Education Requirement:

A PhD or equivalent in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, or neuroscience and a minimum of two years postdoctoral training in perinatal biology and translational research.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least 50% external funding and have achieved independence as a research investigator with demonstrated research commitment, ability, and accomplishment.  Applicants must be planning an academic career and be committed to participation in the research and educational activities of the Reproductive Science Research Division and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 


Applicants must demonstrate an exceptional level of expertise in a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques outlined below. Previous experience studying pregnancy related diseases and neurodevelopment, advanced knowledge of neuroanatomy and development and a strong record of publication is required.


Laboratory experience in molecular biology and comparative biology research and the ability to perform animal surgery, neuroinjections, cell culture, RNA and protein extraction, genomics analysis, biochemical assays, Western blot analysis, PCR, cloning, quantitative real time-PCR, and cell transfection techniques is required. Applicants must be competent in the design and implementation of in vivo and in vitro experiments and must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by scientific publications and oral presentations to the scientific community.
