The UC Davis Genome Center in the College of Biological Sciences coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Annual funding is approximately $21 million from multiple sources. Approximately $6-7 million of annual expenditures come through the Center’s six service Cores, which provide genomic technologies to approximately 700 customers both on and off-campus. This position works in Genome Center Director Blake Meyers’ lab, serving as the primary laboratory technician in the Professor Blake Meyers research laboratory studying plant genetics, genomics, and RNA biology. | |||||||||||||||||||

Under general supervision, perform experiments in the laboratory and plant growth facilities utilizing the techniques of molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, genomics, and bioinformatics. Train students, postdoctoral associates, and other technicians, maintain the laboratory in working order, and supervise undergraduate assistants. Position Information

Smoking and tobacco use are strictly prohibited in indoor and outdoor spaces, parking lots, residential space, and University vehicles. https://ucdavispolicy.ellucid.com/documents/view/271 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education/Experience: · M.S. degree in life sciences. · Experience in biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, genomics, computational approaches or related fields. · Experience with laboratory techniques involving gel electrophoresis, DNA and RNA isolation, purification hybridizations, PCR, qRT-PCR, in situ hybridization, light microscopy. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): · Knowledge to adapt, design and troubleshoot experimental protocols. · Knowledge to understand relevant journal articles in molecular and cell biology. · Knowledge of general laboratory operations, e.g., ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, etc., and ability to supervise assistants in these duties. · Skills to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze experimental data and formulate conclusions. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education/Experience: · Experience with laser capture microdissection. · Experience making next generation sequencing libraries with small amounts of nucleic acids. · Experience with the analysis of large data sets. · Experience with microscopy. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): · Background or interest in working with plants.
