Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION:
The Enrollment Specialist/Licensed Professional Counselor works in the Division of Student Services and reports directly to the Director of Enrollment Services. The incumbent is responsible to lead the facilitation of support services to prospective and currently enrolled students with enrollment and retention resulting in graduation, to provide personal counseling referrals, respond to student life crises, and to support other areas of Student Services. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to balance institutional traditions and academic integrity with the individual needs of the students and faculty; understand the responsibility to act in accordance with guidelines set by the Family Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA); and exhibit the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Incumbent will be required to work after hours as needed.

Job Duties
1. Assist students with enrollment services processes to include Financial Aid, admissions, and registration.
2. Provide advisement services for students in matters related to their programs of study to include academic, health related and career/technical education. This would include understanding of high school and college transcripts.
    • a. Counsel and advise current and potential students on an individual or group basis when appropriate regarding scholastic performance, absences, study habits, etc.
    • b. Counsel students regarding withdrawal from class(es), schedule changes and withdrawal from the College.

 

3. Provide information services as it relates to the college offerings, university transfer information, and career pathways.
4. Assist with the planning and coordination of campus-wide student retention efforts.
5. Assist with the planning and coordination of campus-wide student recruitment efforts.
6. Assist with the coordination and facilitation of orientation programs.
7. Utilize the SCT Banner software and other appropriate software to support office procedures as related toenrollment services.
8. Be familiar with the required forms that pertain to the students that are identified as veterans, vocational rehabilitation, WIOA, etc.
9. Maintain a positive, professional environment with time flexibility for multi-tasking.
10. Effectively deal with job stress, angry callers, and upset customers in a professional and positive manner.
11. Serve as an active member of appropriate campus and college committees as appointed.
12. Serve in the implementation of the student Web Services and other technological programs currently utilized by the College and those planned for the future.
13. Continuously strive to achieve/maintain the college mission, values, and goals by making a positive difference.
14. Stay current concerning trends and policy changes related to higher education to include articulation agreements.
15. Assist with representing the college in activities at high school and community events.
16. Assist students with computerized career assessment tools and interpret results, when appropriate.
17. Obtain professional updates or certifications by attending conferences, seminars and workshops.
18. Upgrade skill level and performance through employee development.
19. Be familiar with and abide by MGCCC Policies and Procedures Manual.
20.Be flexible in working after hours or weekends, as needed.
21. Provide and make referrals for personal counseling to appropriate resources and assist with the response to serious life crises.
22. Assist with assessments or tests, when appropriate.
23. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management.

Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Master’s Degree in counseling, student personnel, or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (must provide official transcript). (M2) Hold credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. (M3) Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. (M4) Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Professional experience working in Student Services (counseling, admissions, financial aid, student life, etc.) in a post-secondary institution. (D2) Experience using SCT Banner Student Module. (D3) Post graduate study beyond master’s level in a related field.
