What You Will Do:

  • Advanced borehole seismic data processing and imaging.

  • Field data acquisition, enhancing your fieldwork skills.

  • Active participation in seismic sensor design and refinement.

  • Analyze geophysical data to design computer simulations and generate realistic synthetic geophysical datasets.

  • Publish your findings in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.

  • Lead or contribute to grant applications to secure research funding.

What is Required:

  • PhD in Geophysics or related fields (e.g., Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering).

  • Proven expertise in borehole seismic data processing.

  • Willingness to learn and actively participate in fieldwork.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific computing and analysis tools (e.g., GitLab, Linux, Bash/Csh, Python, and Matlab).

  • Strong understanding of seismic instrumentation principles, with advanced knowledge in sensor design and electrical engineering being a significant advantage.

  • Competence in high-performance computing, utilizing large clusters for data analysis and simulations.

  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills, evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications and presentations at major conferences.

Notes:

  • This is a full time, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid), 2 year (benefits eligible), Postdoctoral Fellow appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience as of December 31, 2023.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes. Postdoctoral Fellow positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries are predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D. postdoctoral and/or related research experience. This position has a targeted monthly salary range of $6,479 - $7,507 and is expected to start at $6,479 or above.

  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

  • Work will be primarily performed at: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley CA.
