The lab is using cryo-electron microscopy and biochemical approaches to study the role of a conserved family of enzymes called DEAD-box (DDX) RNA helicases in the regulation of mRNA translation in humans. The goal is to understand the mechanism underlying translational regulation by these RNA helicases, which should provide insights into processes controlled by translational regulation, including brain development.

The primary responsibility is to conduct research to advance the understanding of the role of RNA helicases in the regulation of mRNA translation. The successful candidate will develop and apply different techniques, including single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, to study translational regulation. This position will have access to state-of-the-art facilities at the Life Sciences Institute and in the Department of Biological Chemistry.

In addition, this position will contribute to laboratory seminars and discussions, allowing the candidate to impact the direction of their research project and other projects within the research group.
