Description

 

Seeking an outstanding candidate to work in the area of microbiology and immunology, specifically focusing on the role of spirochetal host-pathogen interactions. 

This person needs to work with a high degree of independence and be able to oversee multiple projects within the laboratory. S/he needs extensive expertise and experience with advanced flow cytometry techniques, including preparation of single-cell suspension from organs and multicolor panel design, data acquisition and analysis. Supervise and provide scientific guidance to lab personnel, including junior postdoctoral trainees and students. 

The candidate must be able to apply scientific principles to the solution of critical issues and evaluate approaches to unforeseen or novel problems, understand and learn new techniques for various projects. 

 



Qualifications

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Microbiology, Immunology or a related life science field and eight (8) years of related experience. No other equivalents are accepted for this position. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
  • Knowledge and ability to use the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of the particular field of specialization (e.g., flow cytometry and sorting).
  • Proficient with software applications (Windows, Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Flow Jo, Excel)).
  • Possesses good planning, organization, task efficiency, and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to learn and utilize specialty software applications (e.g., FlowJo, ImageJ, Adobe Illustrator, Graphpad Prism).

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES: 

Experience with maintenance of Ixodes scapularis tick colonies (larva and nymphal stadial stage), cell culture, culture of B. burgdorferi , culture of L. interrogans , immunohistochemistry, ELISA, immunochromatographic assays, dark field and immunofluorescence microscopy, other molecular techniques and working with mice and hamsters is needed. The candidate must be able to apply scientific principles to the solution of critical issues and evaluate approaches to unforeseen or novel problems, understand and learn new techniques for various projects, be a team player, and support other members in the lab.
