Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Regional Nurse Manager to support the Northern State Prison, located in Newark, NJ.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Have the authority, accountability and responsibility for the effective and efficient delivery of nursing care within the Department of Corrections’ (DOC) Facilities.
  • Coordinates, directs, organizes and evaluates inmates’ care, human resources, clinical management and budget control of assigned health care units.
  • Identifies staff learning needs, prepares an appropriate educational plan and implication of same.
  • Administratively oversees the scheduling of physicians, other health care personnel and interdepartmental personnel to ensure that the mission and objectives of the facilities are realized.
  • Maintains the standards of nursing practice/care and actualizes the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Nursing Service to staff, inmates and families.
  • Implements and directs nursing function within the context of each Unit.
  • Provides supervision for Departmental (facility) Nurse Managers.
  • Assures the delivery of quality nursing care to the inmates, adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65 +).

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, as well as demonstrated strong nursing specialty experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited state approved School of Nursing
  • Five (5) years of progressively more responsible nursing experience with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/management nursing experience within the nursing profession.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensed as an RN in the State of New Jersey.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Possesses own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.

Preferred Qualifications
  •  Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to move from unit to unit within secure care or community residential home facilities requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pulls. Lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
