Posting Summary
Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Oral Biology. The Postdoctoral Fellow will perform research centered around the laboratory’s investigation of the effect that biomedical implant degradation products have on the activation of host immune surveillance mechanisms employing cellular and murine disease models. The goal is to develop novel pharmacological treatments and therapies to alleviate the burden of peri-implant disease, periodontal disease and chronic low-grade inflammation leading to systemic inflammatory disease. The ideal candidate must be extremely self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented but also possess the ability to synergistically interact with other laboratory members.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Performs experiments for gene expression, and protein expression in vitro and in vivo.
  • Performs cell culture (oral stem cells, neural crest cells, primary mouse and human cells and immortalized cells).
  • Performs generation of titanium particles from biomedical implant and their characterization.
  • Performa immunostaining for paraffin tissue sections or frozen tissue sections.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment to meet unique needs of the research activity.
  • Assists with preparation of grant proposals, presentations and publications.
  • Actively seeks new collaborative projects within the department and externally.
  • Supervises the undergraduate or master’s students.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in physiology, molecular biology, pulp biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with a broad range of molecular biology and biomedical engineering, gene and protein expression, and histology; experience in animal care and surgery in mice.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to plan and carry out a research projects and to work on own initiative and take personal responsibility for delivery of work.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels using excellent interpersonal, communication and presentational skills.
  • Understanding of methods and approaches relating to survival surgery in mice.
