Job Description
 

The School of Information Science & Learning Technologies, in collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary project titled: "Social Virtual Reality enabled Learning to Empower Special Education Students in Gaining Competence to Join the Future Technology Workforce''. This project is funded by the National Science Foundation's Research on Emerging Technologies for Teaching and Learning (NSF RETTL) program.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing our scientific research and software/testbed development efforts for the project, which aims to improve STEM education and workforce development for transition-aged adults with cognitive conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Key responsibilities include:


  •      Collaboratively developing an accessible and inclusive STEM curriculum focused on computational thinking, using cybersecurity scenarios.
  •        Leveraging virtual reality, intelligent pedagogical agents, and learning technologies to create an immersive, game-like learning environment.
  •      Contributing to the research, development, and deployment of intelligent pedagogical agent techniques to enable self-paced learning.
  •      Assisting in technical report writing and serving as a mentor to student team members.

 



Qualifications
 

Applicants must have a PhD in one of the following fields by the time of appointment: Instructional Technology, Computer Science, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Engineering, or related fields.

Candidates Will Be Evaluated On:

  • Research and analytical skills (Experience in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods is a plus)
  • A track record of academic publication
  • Experience in 3D tools such as Unity
  • Programming and other technical skills
  • Strong collaboration skills.
