Job Summary:

This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of an energetic team of basic and clinician scientists who focus on understanding disease mechanisms, with the goal of translating transformative discoveries from the bench to the bedside to treat devastating human diseases in innovative ways.  The instructor will not only contribute to scientific discovery, but will also be involved in training students and fellows, who will become the next generation of leaders in the field.

Projects will center around defining roles of epigenetic regulators in the control of cardiometabolic disease.  Research will involve genetic and pharmacologic gain- and loss-of-function studies of epigenetic regulators in cell culture models and in vivo mouse/rat models. Findings will be published in peer reviewed journals and will serve as the foundation for grant and patent applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hypothesis-driven research to uncover molecular mechanisms of cardiac and metabolic diseases
  • Cell culture, in vivo models, biochemical assay development and execution
  • Translate basic research findings into early-stage drug discovery programs
  • Contribute to writing grant applications and scientific manuscripts
  • Manage research associates and assist with training students and fellows 

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

  • PhD in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field, and/or an MD degree 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in biochemistry, including protein purification, and molecular and cellular biology. Expertise in mouse models of cardiometabolic disease.
  • At least 3 years of postdoctoral training. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$50,000 - $55,910 

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
