Job Description


There is an immediate opening at Brandeis University in Waltham Massachusetts for the directorship of the interdepartmental NMR facility (BrUNMR ). The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in the physical or biological sciences, experience with NMR applications and maintenance of NMR instrumentation. Duties will include support of a new 400 MHz Bruker spectrometer (to be installed in early 2024) and a Bruker 800 MHz spectrometer with a 4-year old console, including cryogen fills, maintenance of the spectrometers, training of users, assistance with experimental design and setup for applications in chemistry, biochemistry and biophysics, trouble-shooting of hardware and software issues, and liaison with external users of the facility. The successful candidate will be in charge of coordinating the installation of the new 400 MHz Bruker spectrometer that will replace the existing Varian Inova 400 MHz spectrometer.

Qualifications and additional information:

  • PhD required in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, or a related field with a focus on NMR spectroscopy.

  • Work Experience: A minimum of three years of postdoctoral research in chemical, physical, or biomedical sciences and/or demonstrated experience managing an NMR facility. Experience with instrument maintenance and repair required. Experience with cryo systems (magnet fills, cryoprobes and associated hardware) preferred.
