Postdoctoral Appointee - Quantum Networking

Job Description


The Data Science and Learning (DSL) Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral candidate to participate in projects of strategic national importance in quantum information science. In this role, you will contribute to projects in quantum networking that include architecting large-scale quantum networks and protocols, performing quantum communication experiments on Argonne’s testbed, and extending the SeQUeNCe quantum network simulator for supporting these studies.

Quantum Information Science is one of the major initiatives at Argonne, encompassing broad research activities in quantum simulation, sensing, and networking. The laboratory is also a founding member of the Chicago Quantum Exchange, an organization that encompasses more than 100 quantum information science researchers and collaborators from other national laboratories, universities, and quantum technology companies. In this role, you will be fully integrated in this interdisciplinary research team.

Position Requirements

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Recent or soon-to-be completed PhD (typically within the last 0-3 years) in computer science, electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related discipline
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: development of quantum networking protocols; design of quantum network architectures; experimental demonstration of quantum communications; and discrete-event simulation of quantum networks.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience in high-performance computing or scientific computing, or experience in large-scale code development in Python, C, C++, or a similar language would be a plus.
