Job Description Summary:
The Senior Research Associate will conduct research activities related to the contribution of autonomic and respiratory neural circuitry on cardiorespiratory alterations during the progression of heart failure.
The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Research or related field.


Work Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of biological research experience.

  • Experience in rodent surgery.

  • Experience with optogenetics and chemogenetics in-vivo and confocal or super-resolution microscopy.

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR and Western blotting)c

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Minimum six (6) years of biological research experience.

  • Experience working with rodent models and performing cardiorespiratory monitoring in freely moving rodents by indwelling radiotelemetry, whole-body respiratory plethysmography, EEG/EMG/EKG recordings.

  • Experience managing a research laboratory with graduate students, postdocs, and junior technicians.

  • Experience collecting and analyzing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Active participation in the successful planning and execution of experiments.

  • The individual will be responsible for managing a laboratory, managing animal protocols, lab worker training, and purchasing, record management, training, and monitoring of radioactive materials.

  • The individual will play a supervisory role in maintaining the animal use and surgical records and will oversee routine lab and equipment maintenance.

  • Animal work will also include maintaining rodents on chronic treatment, carrying out exercise protocols and performing cognitive assessments.

  • Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Cancer Biology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.

  • The individual will work independently and participate in the design of experiments and will also assist the PI in preparation of grant applications.

  • Assist in training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in lab techniques.

  • Demonstrate competence in areas of critical thinking, technical skills and written/communication skills in English.

  • Perform other duties assigned by PI.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
