Position Focus:

The PET Center Radiochemistry Manager is responsible for managing the PET Center Radiochemistry section serving as the lead chemist. This position will manage the clinical assistants – PET Radiochemists, research associates, and students, and also carry out research activities in the laboratory; Participates in the synthesis and biological evaluation of novel PET radiotracers and translation to human use. Perform independent research, experiments, and laboratory work. Responsible for laboratory upkeep and safety measures.

Duties include: Working closely with the principal investigators of research projects in the management and execution of research activities. Optimize radiopharmaceutical production schedule to ensure maximum productivity. Oversee team of clinical assistants – PET Radiochemists and Research Associates. Manage and carry out the evaluation, implementation and translation of novel PET radiotracers for preclinical and clinical research studies through the development, optimization, and validation of novel radiosynthesis protocols. Manages and carries out the development, optimization and implementation of analytical methods for characterization of metabolites in biological matrixes. Participates in the supervision and training of new members of the research team including postdoctoral fellows, visiting scientists, and students. Manages and coordinates scheduling of research activities. Manages and participates in the production, purification and quality control of PET radiotracers for use in clinical research projects. Manages, operates, maintains, and calibrates laboratory equipment, instruments and devices. Manages and maintains accurate records of methods, results and observations in scientific experiments. Manages and maintains required service contracts for laboratory equipment and instruments. Participates in and contributes to the writing of conference abstracts, project reports manuscripts, research grant applications. Manages and participates in the preparation of regulatory documents for submission of Investigational New Drug (IND) applications to the FDA, for example, preparation of documents for Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC). Manages and participates in quality assurance activities in the radiochemistry laboratory. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Duties

1. Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex, multifaceted research projects/systems, including method development, adaptation and validation. 2. Stays abreast of technological/scientific developments in the field and determine when to incorporate them into experimental plans. 3. Establishes policies and procedures for research projects. 4. Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through adapting new techniques that will achieve research goals. 5. Formulates and implements short and long-range goals for the operation of the lab. Sets priorities, assigns responsibilities, and establishes timelines. Projects future needs and formulates operational strategies consistent with projects. 6. Manages a research facility determining appropriate scientific techniques, equipment and administrative procedures. Supervises exempt and non-exempt staff. 7. Coordinates major lab renovations working with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing to ensure deadlines, safety standards and purchases are according to plans and within budgets. 8. Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data, specialized data collection systems and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensure the integrity of research data. 9. Authors articles for research publications and professional journals. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven ability preparing NCR, CAPAS and reviewing executed documents.
