Position Summary
The Ocular Drug Delivery Lab at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join a research project on ocular drug delivery systems for the anterior segment, with focus on treating the cornea. The project is funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI) and aims to develop novel nanocarriers for delivering antiviral agents to the cornea.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform in vitro experiments using human corneal cells to evaluate the efficacyand safety of nanocarriers for antiviral delivery.
  • Perform in vivo experiments using mouse models of ocular viral infections toassess the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of nanocarriers.
  • Analyze data using statistical and machine learning methods.
  • Prepare manuscripts and presentations for scientific publications and conferences.
  • Assist in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Qualifications:
    Minimum Qualifications
    • A PhD degree in biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, ophthalmology, virology, or related fields. Degree must be obtained within 5 years.
    • Experience in drug delivery systems, ocular pharmacology, virology, or machine learning.
    • Proficiency in wet lab techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology, microscopy, and animal handling is preferred but not compulsory.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Freshly graduated PhD preferred.
